Brent has been involved in the animal health sector in the lower South Island since 1978, when he began his career with what was then the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. With an extensive background in biochemistry and analytical chemistry, he became the Chemistry Section Manager and Quality Manager at MAF Quality Management’s Invermay Animal Health Laboratory. In 1991, he became the first laboratory analyst in New Zealand to gain TELARC signatory status (now IANZ) in the field of veterinary diagnostics (biochemistry).
In 1998, Brent was a co-founder, Director and General Manager of Labnet Invermay Ltd, a successful private laboratory established to provide a local veterinary pathology service for Otago and Southland. He was also instrumental in the development of a comprehensive analytical food service, with a nationwide customer base.
In 2002, this company became part of Gribbles Veterinary and Brent took up his current role of Laboratory Manager, whilst maintaining an active role as laboratory scientist.
